From Calder Race Course in Florida to Golden Gate Fields in California, Eisaman grads emerged victorious in stakes races Saturday across the country.
Brave Dave sped to a one-length win in the $125,000 Jack Price Juvenile at Calder. Trained by Eddie Plesa, Jr. and sent from the gate as the 1-5 favorite in the Jack Price, Brave Dave used his blazing speed to set :21.97- and :44.67-second opening fractions en route to his one-length victory, stopping the timer in 1:25.59 for seven furlongs.
Brave Dave is now a four-time winner from five career starts with his lone defeat coming in the Grade 2 Sanford S. at Saratoga. His previous stakes wins came in the Grade 3 Sapling S. at Monmouth Park and Calder's $100,000 Birdonthewire S. Owned by David Melin (also his breeder) and Laurie Plesa, Brave Dave has amassed $226,100 in earnings.
At Golden Gate Fields, Outside Nashville pulled away from pacesetter Strong Wind down the stretch and scored an impressive 4 1/2-length victory in the $54,200 Golden Nugget Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
Ttrained by Jerry Hollendorfer and ridden by Dennis Carr, the 2-year-old won the six-furlong contest in a quick 1:09.54.
Carr, who got to ride Outside Nashville after Russell Baze chose to ride eventual third-place finisher Zeewat, was happy to pick up the mount on Outside Nashville and rode the race to Hollendorfer’s instructions.
“He broke good and my job was to keep it honest up front so one of us (either Outside Nashville or Zeewat) gets there,” said Carr. “When I hit him (in the stretch), I knew it was going to take something special to run him down because he really dug in and cut. He acts like he’ll be an honest horse. He looks the part.”
“I had two horses to run in the race and if either one of them would win it would make me happy,” said Hollendorfer. “Outside Nashville has done pretty much what we’ve asked him to.”
Both Outside Nashville and Zeewat will likely get the opportunity to go a distance in their next start as Hollendorfer said it’s probable both colts will run in the one-mile Gold Rush S. on Dec. 8 at Golden Gate Fields.
Outside Nashville, a Kentucky-bred son of Broken Vow, was consigned by Eisaman at the OBS March 2-year-old sale, where he was purchased for $115,000. Eisaman had paid $30,000 for him the previous September at Keeneland's yearling sale. He is owned in partnership by Hollendorfer, John Carver, and Green Smith. Outside Nashville earned $30,300 for the Golden Nugget victory and has made $55,850 in four starts.
